sustainability initiative

Can a fabric company grow in harmony with the environment?  Why not? Eagle Fabrics is proud to introduce our Green Collection. Creating truly great design with an eco-friendly point of view, our Green Fabrics are distinguished by being either organic, reclaimed, recycled, sustainable, or a combination of these.

Environmental harm from manufacturing or growing practices from dyes and finishes should be as minimal as we know how to make them. Our eco-friendly line is comprised of fabrics that embody these qualities. Many of the products in our main line can be produced organically, based on the size of the order.

Bamboo

Bamboo fabric is a natural textile made from the pulp of bamboo. It is naturally porous and highly water absorbent, able to take up to three times it’s weight in water. In bamboo fabric, this translates to an excellent wicking ability that absorbs moisture and pulls it away from the skin, keeping you cooler and drier than synthetics or cotton.

The soft , smooth texture , and superior drapability of the bamboo is similar to silk, but more practical, because it is washable. Because it is naturally antimicrobial, bamboo retains it’s anti-fungal, anti-bacterial nature even after processing into fabric and numerous washes.

The plant itself is very quick growing and does not usually require the use of pesticides and herbicides to thrive. As a result , plantations can easily be kept organic and replanted yearly to replenish stocks.

The versatility of bamboo fabric makes it an excellent choice for clothing designers exploring alternative textiles.

Modal

Modal is a textile made from beechwood, a natural raw material and basic component for the fabric. Modal is the most luxurious cellulose fiber. Soft, smooth, silky- so light and delicate that you hardly feel it. It has excellent moisture absorptive and release capacities that let your skin breathe. Its smooth texture, its soft look, and the capability to dye brilliant colors make Modal ideal for high-quality apparel.

Organic Cotton

Sometimes a fabric needs nothing more . . . but something less. Take the case of cotton—a natural fiber whose cultivation has, for the past sixty years, entailed a massive use of toxic chemicals. Organic cotton lets the earth bypass huge amounts of unnecessary chemicals and toxins (1/3 lb. of chemicals is required to produce 1 pound of cotton). By buying organic cotton, you can smile knowing that you are reducing the toxic effects of pesticides in the environment.

Recycled Polyester

Recycled Polyester Fabric is a 100% Post Consumer recycled raw material that is revolutionary in its inception as well as its potential. The polyester fiber is made from recycled soda, water, and food containers. It can also be combined with other fibers for comfort, easy care and durability. Complete the cycle… buy recycled!

Soy

Soy fabric is a new and exciting eco-friendly fabric made from a by-product of soybean oil production. It is a sustainable textile fiber made from renewable and biodegradable resources. It is part of an effort to move consumers away from petrochemical textile products and turn waste into useful products. Soy is a sustainable crop which not only cuts pesticide use, but is also the leading substitute for cashmere, helping to diminish China’s overgrazing of goats. Soy fabric is known in some countries as “soysilk” for its soft, lustrous feel.

Sorona

Blended with Bamboo and/or Bamboo/cotton Sorona® is made from naturally produced starch in corn. Once processed, this starch creates a polymer similar to Polyester without the use of any petrochemicals. Blended with bamboo, this fabric provides exceptional softness and drape, comfort stretch and recovery, moisture management as well as UV and chlorine resistance.

Tencel

Tencel heralds the beginning of a new age in fiber technology. Tencel is a pure and natural cellulose fiber derived from the renewable resource eucalyptus wood. The wood used comes from tree farms that practice sustainability. Completely natural, a major breakthrough was made with the development of the unique nanofibril structure of this fiber. What this simply means is, it is: soft as silk, strong as polyester, cool as linen, warm as wool, and as absorbent as cotton. Quite simply a “break-through” fabric.

The Feel Good Fabric – the number of people with sensitive skin is constantly increasing. Tencel is the perfect fiber for sensitive skin because the smooth and supple fiber surface provides maximum comfort to the skin.

The Moisture Manager – Perfect moisture management is particularly important for the subjective well-being of the skin. The skin being the largest human respiratory organ, it acts as a protective shell, regulating body temperature and maintaining water balance. Tencel supports these functions like a second skin.

The production of the Tencel fiber is revolutionary. It represents one of the greatest achievements in cellulose fiber technology, in that the solvent that is used to process it, is recycled and recovered up to 99.5%. The emissions which remain are decomposed in adapted biological purification plants. The manufacturing process was awarded the “European Award for the Environment” by the European Union.

Viscose

Viscose fibers are the classic of the textile industry and provide you with the best basic material for light, silky textiles for women’s wear. Non-wovens made of viscose fibers meet the highest requirments. They have been bleached without chlorine, are hygienic, very absorptive and stable, provide temperature control and stability.

Wool/Cashmere

A superior natural fiber unmatched by any synthetic fiber for its brilliant qualities of temperature control, fire resistance, stain resistance, endurance and much more. Wool stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter, repels moisture, and resists odors. A great design from nature!
